The Sweetest Thing - U2 (1989)
I have students that find me by this website, (even though I have a newer, easier to use one) people who find me and my music, it's a beautiful thing how words and song can connect people. I had one such student who ended their lessons recently.
U2 re-recorded this Joshua Tree b-side into a spectacular pop song, with an even better video. It's a testament to the band and their creative vision that neither feel particularlty '80s'. Many will already know this track was written as an apology to Bono's wife as he forgotten her birthday around the Joshua Tree sessions. The Edge's guitar plays supporting role to a very cold and bright piano, it lifts the song into something so timeless and sublime.
